Paul Schwer (* 1951 in Schonach in the Black Forest ) is a German installation artist .

Live and act

Schwer studied from 1981 to 1988 at the Düsseldorf Art Academy as a master student under Erwin Heerich . In 1995 he exhibited for the first time at the Cité des Arts in Paris. From 2004 to 2005 he received funding from Bremerhaven. Since 2007 he has been a visiting professor at the Art Academy in Münster .

In October 2009, Paul Schwer installed his work of art, A Cloud for Donaueschingen, on the former Kaiserbrunnen from 1893, which previously stood on Dürrheimer Strasse and was moved to the Südstern-Kreisel for the art installation . The sculpture is 160 cm long, 120 cm wide, 100 cm high and consists of plexiglass with red pigments. At night it is lit from within, and during the day it shines in the sunlight. The work of art was financed with the help of sponsorship money.

Paul Schwer is a member of the German Association of Artists . He lives in Düsseldorf.

Incident in Donaueschingen

Schwer installed his work of art “Home” on a bridge in Donaueschingen , Baden . The work consists of intertwined window and door frames. A Donaueschingen master baker did not like it; so he set the plant on fire in January 2013 with a rag soaked in gasoline. The fire brigade quickly put out the fire. The plant was hardly damaged, but the arsonist was reported.

A former city councilor and managing director of an industrial company then collected donations with which to pay the fine that awaited the perpetrator. Anyone who paid in money also drew a note of protest against posting works of art in public space, against which, in the opinion of the initiators, the art sense of a broad public is reluctant. In mid-February 2013, after two weeks of collection, they collected 2998.22 euros - more than the fine that was ultimately imposed.
