Blindensee

The Blindensee is a raised bog lake in the district of Schönwald in the Black Forest in the Black Forest-Baar district of Baden-Württemberg . He's just a plank bridge to reach and is surrounded by a designated as a nature reserve bog area near the watershed of Gutach and Elz .

It is typical of a high moor lake that it has neither an inlet nor an outlet. It is located centrally in a bog area like an eye and is therefore Moor eye called.

Nature reserve

The Blindensee nature reserve is a nature reserve designated by ordinance of the Freiburg Regional Council of March 2, 1960 (NSG number 3.056). The area has a size of 28.5 hectares . It is part of the 1,722 ha FFH area 7915-341 Schönwalder plateau .

flora

In the nutrient-poor raised bog around the lake, you can find plant species such as the vaginal cottongrass ( Eriophorum vaginatum ), the common cranberry ( Oxycoccus palustris ) and the round-leaved sundew ( Drosera rotundifolia ). Fever clover ( Menyanthes trifoliata ), blood-eye ( Comarum palustre ) and broad-leaved orchid ( Dactylorhiza majalis ) grow in the more nutrient-rich marginal zones . One of the botanical treasures of the reserve is the extremely rare flowering rush ( Scheuchzeria plaustris ).

Legends and myths

A legend according to which a cow drowned in the Blindensee and reappeared after weeks in the Danube is said to have even led to an attempt (inevitably in vain) to prove a connection with the Danube by means of coloring the lake water. According to another legend, a carter and team of horses drowned in Lake Blind and never reappeared.

Surroundings

Blindensee with wind turbine

For several years now, a wind turbine has been turning in the immediate vicinity of the nature reserve, which can be clearly seen from the shores of the Blindensee and can therefore be perceived as a nuisance. A travel guide about the lake published in 2010 states: “Mystical mirror, mysterious eye, enchanted gateway to the other world - these were the descriptions that visitors found only a short time ago. But the famous scenery has been destroyed: a huge wind turbine towers over the lake and, with its noisy rotor blades, whips down any contemplative mood. "
