The area extends northeast of Pfohren , a district of Donaueschingen. The A 81 runs to the east and the B 31 / B 33 to the south . The Danube flows to the west . The 633.9 hectare nature reserve Unterhölzer Wald extends to the east .

For Bad Dürrheim and Donaueschingen, an area of ​​170.9 hectares has been designated as a nature reserve under the identification number 3.230 since December 17, 1996. It is a supraregional, extensive reed area - a mosaic of moors , large sedges , reed beds , wet meadows , poor grasslands , tall herbaceous vegetation and woody plants.
