Thomas Paul Arthur Danne (born February 19, 1959 in Berlin ) is a German pediatrician and professor of child and adolescent medicine.

Career

Thomas Danne graduated from the John F. Kennedy School in Berlin with both the German Abitur and the US High School Diploma . As a resident of West Berlin , he did not have to do military service and was able to study medicine at the Free University of Berlin from 1977 . He received his doctorate in 1985 on the comparison of an initial treatment for diabetes mellitus in childhood with human insulin and highly purified pig insulin .

After completing his studies, he began further training as a pediatrician at the Kaiserin-Augusta-Hospital in Berlin. From 1988 to 1991 he worked at the Joslin Diabetes Center in Boston as a Research Fellow in the Elliot P. Joslin Laboratory. In 1996 he completed his habilitation and acquired the Venia Legendi of the Charité, where he then headed pediatric diabetology as senior physician.

Since 2001 he has been chief physician for diabetology, endocrinology and general paediatrics and clinical research at the children's hospital on the Bult in Hanover , as well as an adjunct professor for pediatric and adolescent medicine at the Hanover Medical School .

Thomas Danne has four children.

Act

Danne is the first and co-author of scientific papers, most of them in the field of child diabetology. His research focuses on the further development of technical treatment options for diabetes in children and adolescents, as well as the further development of insulins and new drugs for the treatment of type 1 diabetes such as SGLT inhibitors, and health services research .
