Rohrhardsberg-Obere Elz is a nature reserve and landscape protection area in the natural areas of the Southeastern Black Forest and the Upper Black Forest in Baden-Württemberg .

geography

The nature reserve is located in the natural areas of the Southeastern Black Forest and the Upper Black Forest in the areas of the city of Elzach , Simonswald , Furtwangen , Schönwald and Schonach in the Schwarzwald-Baar district and partly in the Emmendingen district in Baden-Württemberg.

The area borders west of the Rohrhardsberg ( 1153.2  m above sea  level ) and the nature reserves Yacher Zinken and Kostgefäll , extends north to the Geistfelsen, east to the upper course of Landstrasse 109 and to the south near the sources of the Griesbachs and the Breg (near Martinskapelle ) and source of the Elz , which is about 3 kilometers west of the community of Schonwald.

Characteristics

The area was designated as a nature reserve by ordinance on December 18, 1997 and is listed under the protected area number 3.245 at the Freiburg Regional Council. It has an area of ​​558.1 hectares and is classified in IUCN Category IV, a biotope and species protection area. The WDPA ID is 165209 and corresponds to the European CDDA code and the EUNIS number.

The protection purpose “is the preservation of the area

  • as a structure and species-rich mosaic of different forests, moors, meadows, pastures and other habitats;
  • as a habitat for a multitude of endangered animal and plant species, some of which are threatened with extinction;
  • as a »subalpine outpost« in the Central Black Forest with the corresponding flora and fauna;
  • as a low-traffic and settlement-poor, relatively undisturbed area;
  • as a model area for the adaptation of leisure and recreational use to the goals of nature conservation on the basis of the "integral model project Rohrhardsberg / Martinskapelle" (Rohrhardsberg working group 1991) "

Landscape protection area

Upper Elz

In order to secure the nature reserve from damage and to realize the protection purpose, a landscape protection area with a total size of around 384 hectares was set up in addition to the ordinance of the Freiburg Regional Council already listed above . The LSG is around 295 hectares (protected area number 3.26.026) in the Schwarzwald-Baar district and around 89 hectares (protected area number 3.16.015) in the district of Emmendingen.
