Limberg is a nature reserve in the Baden-Württemberg community of Sasbach am Kaiserstuhl .
Characteristics
The nature reserve was designated by ordinance of the Freiburg Regional Council of August 16, 1973 and has a size of 29.4 hectares. It is listed under the protected area number 3.087. The CDDA code for the nature reserve is 82096 and corresponds to the WDPA ID .
Location and description
The protected area on the west side of the Limberg is located around one kilometer northwest of Sasbach directly on the Rhine. It is located in the natural area 200 - Markgräfler Rheinebene within the natural spatial main unit 20 - Southern Upper Rhine Lowland . It is part of the FFH area No. 7911-341 Kaiserstuhl and the bird sanctuary No. 7912-442 Kaiserstuhl .
Protection purpose
The main protection purpose is the protection of the largest and most closed occurrence of the downy oak forest (bush and high forest) in the Kaiserstuhl area and the remnants of the sedge-linden forest, a forest community that is very characteristic of the southern Upper Rhine area . The sedge-linden forest could only survive in those locations where the common beech could not penetrate it during its post-glacial immigration.
