The nature and landscape protection area Rheinniederung Wyhl-Weisweil lies in the area of the communities Rheinhausen (Breisgau) , Sasbach am Kaiserstuhl , Weisweil and Wyhl in the district of Emmendingen .
The area extends directly to the west flowing Rhine between the core town Rheinhausen (Breisgau) in the northeast and the core town Sasbach in the south. The continuous old retraction flows through it. The national road 104 runs east.

For Rheinhausen (Breisgau), Sasbach, Weisweil and Wyhl am Kaiserstuhl, an area of 1,407.8 hectares has been designated as a nature reserve under the identification number 3.247 since February 20, 1998 . It is a former flood plain and still existing flood plains, which are largely separated from the annual floods by the expansion of the Rhine. It is a biotope mosaic with forests, tall herbaceous meadows , reed beds , arms of the Old Rhine , Gießen, riparian zones and flood dams - a habitat for an extraordinarily large number of rare and endangered animal and plant species, some of which are threatened with extinction.
