Hochberg is a nature reserve in the Kaiserstuhl natural area in Baden-Württemberg . It is a steep dry slope on the mountain of the same name and the habitat of a rare warmth-loving flora and fauna.

geography

The nature reserve is located in the municipality of Sasbach am Kaiserstuhl in the district of Emmendingen . It is located in the Leiselheim district between the Jechtingen district to the south-west and the Leiselheim district to the east, about 260  m above sea level. NHN . The area is now surrounded by grapevines and dirt roads in an island location on the northern slope of the Hochberg and is oriented steeply to the southeast.

Characteristics

The area was designated as a nature reserve by ordinance on September 27, 1979 and is listed under the protected area number 3.109 at the Freiburg Regional Council. It has an area of ​​0.7 hectares and is classified in IUCN Category IV, a biotope and species protection area. The WDPA ID is 81892 and corresponds to the European CDDA code and the EUNIS no.

history

In the protected area, a dry grassland developed as a result of increasing cultivation of vines and the associated abandonment of the use of grassland . Regular and late mowing prevented the emergence of oak and hornbeam forests on the steep slope and the encroachment of these uncultivated meadows, while the use of fertilizers was avoided.

The loess finds its ground in the red-brown to gray-black tephrite , a volcanic rock ( volcanic ).

Flora and fauna

The area is home to around 130 vascular plants . The semi-arid lawn is partially bordered by trees and shrubs, in particular by barberry , field elm , grooved hawthorn , rainwaide and occasionally downy oaks . The fire orchid is from the family of orchids lush finding in late spring there. The gold aster , the field man litter and the steppe milkweed occur very frequently as representatives of the particularly dry area. From the series of endangered and rare species find common pasque flower , the military orchid as another orchid that asparagus pea and yellow broomrape also find their habitat.

The transition to the areas that are not subject to regular mowing is characterized by the occurrence of the rough alant , the steppe fennel , the small meadow rue and the large anemone . In the sections outside of the regular mowing there are still the panicle grass lily , the scabiosa knapweed and the wild marjoram .

fauna

In addition to the numerous insects of the passerine birds, the tree pipit , the blackcatcher and the red-backed killer from the order of the passerine birds have been identified in the Hochberg, while vertebrates are rarely represented. The rare green lizard has also been spotted here.
