Flora and fauna

Fever clover (Menyanthes trifoliata)

The area is characterized by fens and wet meadow areas . Fens are rich in nutrients and offer ideal conditions for the heart leaf , the flea sedge , which is highly endangered in Germany , the round-leaved sundew and the greenish yellow sedge . The narrow-leaved cotton grass litter the wet meadows in early summer; Furthermore, the fever clover and the summer adonis can be found on particularly moist meadows. In late summer, the inconspicuous moor bells can still be discovered in the protected area , which in Baden-Württemberg has its only remaining habitat due to the abundance of rainfall in the Central Black Forest and the less intensive use of the meadows by mowing.

hike

The Kandelhöhenweg , a long-distance hiking trail run by the Black Forest Association , runs through the area . The Kreuzmoos hiking home is located to the west near the northern protection area.
