Vålådalen is a winter sports resort in Jämtland in Sweden . It is about 30 kilometers south of Åre at the foot of the Ottfjäll. In the village is the Vålådalen tourist station / Fjällstation, which was once the largest facility of Svenska Turistföreningen in the mountains. In addition to the station, which is now privately managed, there are some villas and holiday homes.

Sports history

Vålådalen is part of Swedish sports history. Several generations of Swedish athletes trained at the tourist station. The moor below the tourist station is called “Gunders Sumpf” after Gunder Hägg , a successful runner in the 1940s , who trained there, among other things, by running through the fine-grained sand around the nearby Lake Nulltjärn . Various Swedish national teams trained in Vålådalen, not only athletes but also boxers and speedway drivers .

Gösta Olander , the station's founder, was considered the guru of the sporting world around the mid-20th century , and national teams from many countries held training camps in Vålådalen in the 1950s. Gösta Olander died in 1972. His house is now a museum and contains 600 cataloged items , including Paavo Nurmi's spike shoes and Floyd Patterson's boxing gloves.

service

The facility offers 200 beds in Stugor , hotel rooms and a youth hostel. In the main building there is a full liquor restaurant and a shop selling groceries, handicrafts and other goods.

A sauna and a relaxation area with an open fire are located directly next to the facility. There is also a cross-country ski run and ski slope there.

Hiking trails

Vålådalen is a starting point for various hiking trails. There is the possibility of short day tours in the area. The most famous day trips lead to the fine sandy beach of Nulltjärn or the lakes Östra Blanktjärnar with clear, emerald green water.

Hiking trails lead from Vålådalen to Lunndörrsfjäll and Vålåvalen. From nearby Vallbo you can hike 19 kilometers to the Anarisstuga hut. A multi-day tour from Vålådalen takes you via Stensdalen and Gåsen to Sylarna and Blåhammaren .
