The Åre Östersund Airport is a Swedish airport, 8 kilometers west of Östersund and east of 94 km Åre , on the island of Frösön located.
The airport operated by Swedavia , which can be reached from Åre in about an hour and from Östersund in ten minutes, was inaugurated in 1958. Today the airport has a terminal with an area of 5600 square meters, which also houses a duty-free shop and a small restaurant. In 2016, Åre Östersund handled a total of 495,228 passengers, of which 483,242 were domestic flights and 11,986 international flights. The airport is now used by both charter flights and scheduled flights. Currently SAS Scandinavian Airlines mainly uses the airport. The second major airline Nextjet , which also had a base in Åre Östersund, ceased operations on May 16, 2018 due to the company's insolvency.
