The airfield Uppsala Ärna (ICAO: ESCM ) is a military airport of the Swedish Air Force north of of Uppsala is located.
history
An airfield was already in operation in the municipality of Uppsala in the pre-war years. With the beginning of the Second World War, the Swedish Air Force began to convert the airfield into a military airfield. So the F16 squadron, the "Upplands Flygflottilj", moved to the airfield in 1944. In the 1950s, the Air Force built an underground aircraft cavern . At the end of the Cold War , the Air Force reduced its holdings so that it wanted to open this military airfield to civilian traffic as well. However, after fifteen years of discussion, these plans were ended in June 2018 by the then ruling provincial government.
