The Kubbe military airfield ( Swedish Kubbe flygbas ) is a former military airfield in the Swedish municipality of Örnsköldsvik , 70 kilometers northwest of Örnsköldsvik .

Technical specifications

The airfield consisted of a main runway with a length of 2.3 km and several hangars . There are three more makeshift airfields in the vicinity of the former airfield . Normal country roads were widened and up to 50 m wide treeless aisles were created, which could be used as a makeshift airfield in an emergency.

The airfield was built as part of the Bas 60 program during the Cold War . All over Sweden there was a network of airfields that could be put into readiness within a short time in the event of an attack.

The base was shut down in the late 1990s and bought in 2001 by Swedish billionaire Christer Ericsson , who wanted to rent it out to the automotive industry for testing. However, this idea was not realized.

The main runway is only for drag race -Competitions ( drag racing used).
