Dmitri Semjonowitsch Japarow ( Russian Дмитрий Семёнович Япаров ; born January 1, 1986 in Moschga , Russian SFSR ) is a Russian cross-country skier .

Career

Japarow started in December 2007 for the first time in the Eastern Europe Cup . He finished 51st over 15 km classic in Krasnogorsk . In the 2010/11 season he came in the Eastern-Europe-Cup five times in the top ten, including second place in the skiathlon in Syktywkar and achieved fourth place in the overall standings at the end of the season. His first starts in the World Cup were in the Tour de Ski 2010/11 , which he finished in 23rd place. He achieved his first top ten placement in the World Cup with tenth place in the sprint in Oberstdorf . In the 2011/12 season he finished 18th in the Tour de Ski 2011/12 and 27th in the World Cup final in Falun . In February 2012 he came on the podium for the first time at the World Cup in Nové Město with second place in the relay. He finished the season in 36th place in the overall World Cup. After finishing eighth at the Nordic Opening in Kuusamo at the beginning of the 2012/13 season, he achieved 19th place at the 2012/13 Tour de Ski . In February 2013 he and Maxim Wylegschanin won his first World Cup victory in a team sprint in Sochi . At the season highlight, the Nordic World Ski Championships 2013 in Fiemme Valley , he finished 13th in the sprint and 11th in the 50 km mass start race. At the World Cup final in Falun, he came in 21st place and reached 19th place in the overall World Cup. At the beginning of the 2013/14 season, he came 28th at the Nordic Opening in Kuusamo. He finished third in the 10 km stage. A World Cup victory with the relay followed in Lillehammer . At the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, he won the silver medal with the relay, which was withdrawn from the Russian team at the beginning of November 2017 because of the doping of Alexander Legkov . He also came in 16th place over 15 km classic. At the end of the season he finished 29th in the World Cup finals in Falun and reached 36th place in the overall World Cup and 12th place in the Distance World Cup. The following season he took 57th place at the Nordic Opening in Lillehammer and 33rd place at the 2015 Tour de Ski . His best season result in the World Cup was the 13th place over 10 km classic in Dobbiaco . In the 2015/16 season he mainly started in the Eastern Europe Cup. He was in the top ten six times, including third place over 10 km classic in Minsk . In February 2016 in Krasnogorsk he clinched his first classic victory in the Eastern Europe Cup over 15 km and finished fifth in the overall standings at the end of the season.
