Alexander Andrejewitsch Bessmertnych ( Russian Александр Андреевич Бессмертных ; born September 15, 1986 in Berjosowski ) is a Russian cross-country skier .

Career

From 2007 to 2010 Bessmertnych mainly took part in the Eastern Europe Cup . At the U23 World Championships in Praz de Lys in 2009 , he won silver in the 30 km skiathlon race and bronze in the 15 km freestyle. He had his first start in the cross-country skiing world cup in March 2009 in Lahti . Over 15 km freestyle he finished 29th and also got his first World Cup points. The 2010/11 season began for him in the Eastern Europe Cup. He took part in the Tour de Ski , which he finished with 25th place. He finished the season in the Eastern Europe Cup, which he finished with third place in the overall standings. At the Russian cross-country skiing championships in Rybinsk in 2011 , he won silver over 15 km classic.

In the 2011/12 season, Bessmertnych was only able to occupy midfield positions in the World Cup , his best result was a 14th place. He finished the Tour de Ski in 25th place. After several successful competitions at the Eastern Europe Cup, the following World Cup season began for him at the Tour de Ski, which he finished in 20th place. In La Clusaz he reached his first podium in the World Cup with second place. At the Nordic World Ski Championships in 2013 in Val di Fiemme , he reached 23rd place over 50 km classic. He won gold over 50 km classic at the Russian cross-country skiing championships.

At the beginning of the 2013/14 season , Bessmertnych won his first relay World Cup victory in Lillehammer . At the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi , he finished seventh over 15 km classic and won silver with the relay. At the beginning of November 2017, the Russian team was stripped of the medal because of Alexander Legkow's doping . At the beginning of the 2014/15 season he reached the 61st place at the Nordic Opening in Lillehammer. He finished the Tour de Ski 2015 in 18th place. At the Nordic World Ski Championships 2015 in Falun , he came tenth in the 50 km mass start race and fourth in the relay. After 29th place at the Nordic Opening in Ruka at the beginning of the 2015/16 season, she finished second and one at the Alpine Cup in Prémanon over 15 km and came second over 15 km classic at the World Cup in Toblach . He finished the Tour de Ski 2016 in 24th place. In February 2016 he finished second in the 10 km classic at the World Cup in Falun. At the end of the season he came in 13th place in the Ski Tour Canada and reached 19th place in the overall World Cup and tenth place in the Distance World Cup. In the 2016/17 season he came 28th in the World Cup mini tour in Lillehammer and 13th in the Tour de Ski 2016/17 . At the season highlight of the Nordic World Ski Championships 2017 in Lahti , he won the silver medal with the relay. He also achieved 17th place in the skiathlon and fourth place over 15 km classic. In March 2017, he finished third in the 50 km mass start race in Oslo and 14th in the World Cup final in Québec . He achieved third place in the mass start stage over 15 km. He finished the season in 15th place in the overall World Cup and 11th in the Distance World Cup.

After second place over 15 km classic and first place over 10 km freestyle at the Eastern Europe Cup in Vershina Tjoi , at the beginning of the 2018/19 season, Bessmertnych won over 30 km classic at the Eastern Europe Cup in Krasnogorsk and achieved 33rd place 2nd place at the Tour de Ski 2018/19 . This was followed by first place with the relay in Ulricehamn and third place over 15 km classic at the World Cup in Cogne and at the end of the season 46th place in the overall World Cup. At the 2019 World Ski Championships in Seefeld in Tirol , he won the silver medal with the relay and over 15 kilometers in the classic technique behind the Norwegian Martin Johnsrud Sundby .
