Artjom Igorewitsch Malzew ( Russian Артём Игоревич Мальцев ; English Artem Maltsev ; born May 24, 1993 ) is a Russian cross-country skier .
Career
Malzew started in Krasnogorsk for the first time in the cross-country skiing Eastern Europe Cup in December 2009 and came in 125th place in the sprint and 62nd place over 15 km freestyle. At the Nordic Junior World Ski Championships 2010 in Hinterzarten , he achieved 20th place in the skiathlon . The following year he won the silver medal in the sprint at the European Youth Olympic Winter Festival 2011 in Liberec . He was also sixth over 7.5 km freestyle and fourth over 10 km classic. At the Nordic Junior World Ski Championships in 2012 in Erzurum , he won the silver medal in the skiathlon and the gold medal with the relay. Over 10 km classic, he came fifth. The following year he won the silver medal and the gold medal with the relay at the Nordic Junior World Ski Championships 2013 in Liberec in the skiathlon and over 10 km freestyle. He finished fourth in the sprint. At the U23 World Championships in 2014 in Fiemme Valley , he finished 35th over 15 km classic. In the 2014/15 season he reached in Werschina Tjoi with third place over 10 km freestyle and the first in the sprint his first podium in Eastern-Europe Cup and finished the season in tenth place in the overall standings. At the U23 World Championships in 2015 in Almaty , he came in 30th place in the skiathlon and ninth place in the sprint. The following year, at the U23 World Championships in Rasnov in 2016 , he finished 51st in the 15 km freestyle and 28th place in the sprint. He made his debut in the cross-country skiing world cup in Pyeongchang in February 2017 . He took third place in the team sprint together with Nikita Krjukow . At the end of March 2018, he became the Russian champion in the 50 km mass start race in Syktyvkar .
In the 2018/19 season, Malzew took second place over 15 km freestyle at the Eastern Europe Cup in Krasnogorsk , third place together with Gleb Retiwych in the team sprint in Dresden and won his first World Cup victory in Ulricehamn with the relay. He also won his first World Cup points in Dresden with 19th place in the sprint. At the Nordic World Ski Championships 2019 in Seefeld in Tirol , he came 17th in the sprint. After finishing 20th in the Ruka Triple at the beginning of the 2019/20 season, he finished ninth in the 2019/20 Tour de Ski and 24th in the ski tour, making it 20th in the overall World Cup.
