Chris André Jespersen (born October 18, 1983 in Etne ) is a Norwegian cross-country skier .

life and career

Jespersen was able to show international successes especially in the junior age. At the Junior World Championships in Schonach in 2002 , he finished fifth over 10 kilometers of freestyle . A year later he won the gold medal over the 30 kilometer freestyle distance at the 2003 Junior World Championships in Sollefteå . Over 10 kilometers classic he came in ninth. as well as silver with the relay.

Jespersen made his first appearance in the cross-country skiing world cup on December 6, 2003, over 30 kilometers freestyle in Toblach . As 72nd of 79 classified athletes, however, he could not convince. At the U23 Junior World Championships in Kranj 2006, he just missed a classic medal as fourth over 15 kilometers. In the World Cup he was unable to assert himself against the strong national competition in the following years and had only three more appearances in the World Cup until the 2007/08 season , of which he did not finish two races and placed 50th once.

Jespersen celebrated his greatest success so far in February 2008 when he won the World Cup in Falun with the second Norwegian relay . This season he mainly started in the Continental Cup . There he was able to show eighth place in the overall ranking of the Scandinavian Cup at the end of the season. At the start of the 2008/09 cross-country skiing world cup in Gällivare, Jespersen justified his nomination with 13th place over 15 kilometers of freestyle and thus achieved his best result in an individual world cup to date. However, Jespersen remained a member of the B squad and did not return to the World Cup until March in Trondheim .

Also for the 2009/10 season Jespersen was not part of the A-squad and continued to compete in lower-class FIS races or in the Scandinavian Cup. Only at the end of the season in Oslo did he contest another World Cup race and finished 28th in the 50 km race in the points. For the 2010/11 season , he surprisingly started in the A-team and finished fourth over 15 km in Gällivare. With the relay he secured another podium a day later in third place. After finishing the sprint stage 88th at the Nordic Opening in Kuusamo , Jespersen retired from the A-squad again. Even when he started again in La Clusaz , he did not finish in the 30 km mass start. Then Jespersen went back to the Scandinavian Cup. After winning the Keuruu race , he started again in the World Cup in Lahti, but remained without points.

At the Norwegian Championships 2011 in Kvaløysletta , he won silver over the 50 km distance. For the 2011/12 season Jespersen came back to the A-team. He was already in the points at the first World Cup in Sjusjøen . At the Nordic Opening in Kuusamo he was also 25th to collect valuable World Cup points. At the end of the season he did this again at the Lahti skiathlon. In April 2012 he won the Haukelirennet over 32 km freestyle and the Skarverennet over 38 km freestyle.

In the 2012/13 season started with Jespersen Rank 17 in the Nordic Opening in Kuusamo. A few days later he finished eighth in Canmore, a very good top 10 place. With more points, including a 30th place in the season finale, he finished the season in 49th place overall.

Jespersen achieved his final breakthrough in the World Cup in the 2013/14 season . At the Nordic Opening he finished eighth. After another eighth place at the 15 km World Cup in Lillehammer , he was second on the podium again in the same place with the relay. In Davos , he achieved a podium finish in an individual World Cup for the first time as second. The following Tour de Ski 2013/14 ended Jespersen in second place overall. At the following Winter Olympics in Sochi in 2014 , Jespersen ran over 15 km in classic style to a very good sixth place. In the following season he just missed a medal together with Eldar Rønning , Martin Johnsrud Sundby and Petter Northug in fourth. In the final 50 km individual, he finished 32nd. After he did not finish the following season finale in Falun , he finished the season in fourth place in the overall World Cup standings. In the distance world cup, he also reached fourth place. At the beginning of the following season he finished 45th over 15 km classic in Ruka and 17th place at the Nordic Opening in Lillehammer. At the following World Cup in Davos he came third in the 15 km freestyle. He finished the Tour de Ski 2015 in eighth place. At the 2015 Nordic World Ski Championships in Falun, he finished eighth in the 15 km freestyle. At the end of the season he reached 12th place in the overall and distance World Cup. In April 2015 he won the Haukelirennet over 32 km freestyle. In the 2017/18 season he was third over 15 km classic at the Scandinavian Cup in Vuokatti and second at Reistadløpet .
