Thomas Bing (born April 3, 1990 in Bad Salzungen , Suhl district ) is a German cross-country skier . He has been part of the customs ski team since 2010 .

Career

Thomas Bing started cross-country skiing at the age of seven. In summer 2010 he passed his Abitur at the sports high school in Oberhof .

At the Junior World Championships in 2008, 2009 and 2010 he won two silver and one bronze medal with the team and achieved several top ten placements in individual. He made his World Cup debut on December 3, 2011 at the sprint race in Düsseldorf . At the Junior World Championships 2012 in Erzurum , Bing finished fifth and seventh in the U23 distance races. In the same year he became German champion in the mass start race. In 2013 he won the bronze medal in the 15 km freestyle race at the U23 Junior World Championships in Liberec and came fourth in the skiathlon.

In the 2013/14 season , on January 1, 2014, Bing achieved its best position in the World Cup to date with fourth place in the 15 km mass start race in Lenzerheide as part of the Tour de Ski . He qualified for the Olympic Games in Sochi . There he finished 36th in the skiathlon and in the 50 km mass start race and 32nd place in the sprint. His best results at the 2015 Nordic World Ski Championships in Falun were fourth in the team sprint and 42nd place in the 50 km mass start race. In the 2016/17 season he finished 30th in the World Cup mini tour in Lillehammer and in the Tour de Ski 2016/17 . His best placings at the Nordic World Ski Championships 2017 in Lahti were 41st place in the sprint, seventh place together with Sebastian Eisenlauer in the team sprint and sixth place with the relay. At the end of the season he came in 22nd place at the World Cup finals in Québec and reached 47th place in the overall World Cup. At the German cross-country skiing championships in Oberwiesenthal in 2017 , he was champion in the team sprint together with Marius Cebulla .

After finishing 32nd in the Ruka Triple at the beginning of the 2017/18 season, he finished 20th in the Tour de Ski 2017/18 and 35th in the World Cup final in Falun . His best placings at the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang were 11th place in the skiathlon and sixth place in the relay. In March 2018 he was first in the team sprint and first over 30 km classic at the German cross-country skiing championships in Reit im Winkl together with Thomas Wick .
