Thomas Wick (born April 12, 1991 ) is a former German cross-country skier .

Career

Wick won the silver medal with the German relay at the Nordic Junior World Ski Championships 2009 in Praz de Lys Sommand and a year later bronze in Hinterzarten . At the Nordic Junior World Ski Championships in 2011 in Otepää , he was sixth in the skiathlon and in 2014 at the U23 World Championships in Val di Fiemme seventh over 15 km classic.

Wick had his first start in the World Cup at the Tour de Ski 2013/14 , where he finished the prologue in 70th and the subsequent sprint in 71st, but did not start the third stage. His next appearance in the World Cup was the Tour de Ski 2015 , which he finished 43rd. He achieved his best stage placements with 32nd place in the 15 km mass start race in the classic technique in Val di Fiemme and 34th place in the pursuit stage in the classic technique in Oberstdorf , in which he achieved the 26th fastest time.

In March 2013 he won the 30 km freestyle mass start race at Campo Carlo Magno in the Alpine Cup . In addition, with third place each, he achieved further podium placements on December 14, 2013 in Ortisei am Pillersee over 10 km freestyle and a week later in Gressoney-Saint-Jean over 15 km classic. In the overall ranking of the Alpine Cup he came in twelfth place in the 2012/13 season and tenth place in the following season . In March 2015 he became German champion in the 50 km mass start race in the classic technique. In March 2016 he defended his championship title in the 50 km mass start in the classic technique.

In March 2018 he was first in the team sprint and third over 30 km classic at the German cross-country skiing championships in Reit im Winkl together with Thomas Bing .

After failing to qualify for the 2018 Winter Olympics and the 2019 Nordic World Ski Championships , Wick announced his retirement from competitive sports on March 21, 2020.

Personal

Thomas Wick is the son of Holger Wick and Susann Kuhfittig , his brother is Robert Wick . He lives in Ruhpolding and is in a relationship with Denise Herrmann .
