Erik Bjornsen (born July 14, 1991 in Winthrop ) is an American cross-country skier .

Career

Until 2014 Bjornsen mainly participated in the Nor-Am Cup and the US Super Tour. He has had 12 victories so far and was able to take second place in the overall ranking of the US Super Tour in the 2012/13 and 2013/14 season (as of the end of the 2018/19 season). At the US cross-country skiing championships in 2011 in Stowe , he won silver in the 20 km mass start race. He ran his first World Cup race in December 2012 in Québec , which he finished with 66th place in the sprint. At the US cross-country skiing championships in Midway in 2013, he won gold once and silver twice. His best results at the Nordic World Ski Championships 2013 in Val di Fiemme were 48th place over 15 km freestyle and 14th place in the team sprint. In February 2014 he was able to win his first World Cup points with 18th place in Dobbiaco over 15 km classic. At the US cross-country skiing championships in 2014 in Soldier Hollow , he won gold over 15 km classic and silver in the sprint. His best results at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi were 11th place in the relay and sixth place in the team sprint. At the Nordic World Ski Championships 2015 in Falun , his best results were 28th place in the skiathlon and 11th place in the relay. After finishing 46th at the Nordic Opening in Ruka at the beginning of the 2015/16 season, he finished 41st at the Tour de Ski 2016 and 42nd at the Ski Tour Canada . In March 2016 he became the US American champion over 50 km. In the 2016/17 season he finished 57th in the World Cup Mini Tour in Lillehammer and 25th in the World Cup final in Québec . His best placings at the Nordic World Ski Championships 2017 in Lahti were 18th place over 15 km classic, tenth place with the relay and fifth place together with Simeon Hamilton in the team sprint. The following season he ran to 26th place in the Ruka Triple and 38th place in the World Cup finals in Falun. His best results at the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang were 25th place in the sprint and sixth place together with Simeon Hamilton in the team sprint.

In the 2018/19 season Bjornsen finished 32nd in the Lillehammer Triple and 20th in the World Cup final in Québec. He achieved third place in the pursuit in Lillehammer and reached 52nd place in the overall World Cup. At the Nordic World Ski Championships in 2019 in Seefeld in Tirol , he ran on 17th place over 15 km classic, on ninth place with the relay and together with Simeon Hamilton on eighth place in the team sprint. At the beginning of April 2019, he became the US champion in the mass start race over 50 km freestyle in Presque Isle .
