Gaia Vuerich (born July 4, 1991 in Cavalese ) is an Italian cross-country skier .

Career

Vuerich mostly competed in junior competitions until 2010. She made her World Cup debut in February 2009 in Valdidentro , which she finished with 29th place in the sprint and thus got her first World Cup points. In the 2010/2011 season she took part in the cross-country Alpine Cup. She reached third place in the sprint in St. Ulrich am Pillersee and finished 25th in the overall ranking at the end of the season. At the Nordic World Ski Championships 2011 in Oslo , she finished 35th in the sprint. In 2013, she became the Italian sprint champion. In 2013/14 she reached fourth place in two sprint competitions, her best World Cup results so far. At the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi reached 13th place in team sprint and seventh place in sprint. She finished the World Cup season in 27th place in the overall standings and ninth place in the sprint standings. In September 2014, she won the Rollerski World Cup in Val di Fiemme together with Giulia Stürz in the team sprint. At the 2015 Nordic World Ski Championships in Falun , she achieved 33rd place in the sprint and 11th place in the team sprint. In September 2015 she won the silver medal together with Giulia Stürz in the team sprint at the Rollerski World Championships in Val di Fiemme . In the 2015/16 season she made it into the points five times in the World Cup. Her best placement was sixth in the sprint in Planica . In January 2016 she took second place in the sprint at the Alpencup in Planica. At the Nordic World Ski Championships 2017 in Lahti , she finished 15th in the sprint. In February 2018 she ran at the Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang to 21st place in the sprint and 15th place together with Elisa Brocard in the team sprint.
