The Rollerski World Cup (officially FIS Rollerski World Cup ) is an annual series of competitions in the roller ski sport.

history

The World Cup was held for the first time by the International Ski Federation (FIS) in the summer of 2000. Individual World Cups had already been held since 1993, after the FIS first observed rollerskiing. The series was set up as a supplement to the cross-country skiing world cup in winter. The Rollerski World Cup is primarily attended by athletes who also start on skis in winter. Only rarely are athletes at the start who are not allowed to start in winter.

construction

The Rollerski World Cup consists of eight to 14 races a year. Of these, up to three races are single start races over 5 km in length. There are also up to two pursuit races. At least two mass start races and up to six sprint world cups round off the individual competitions. The overall World Cup winner is determined from the results of these runs. The national rankings are determined at the end of the season in team sprint races, which are also held as a mixed race with women and men, as well as in individual, but less frequent, relay races. This also includes the results of the three best starters of the men, women and the respective juniors of a nation. The FIS point system serves as the calculation standard . The Rollerski World Championships, which are held every two years in September according to the regulations, are officially part of the World Cup calendar and the results are included in the ranking of the World Cup.

athlete

According to the rules, there is the opportunity for juniors and seniors to start in the Rollerski World Cup. The corresponding age regulation is the same as in the cross-country skiing world cup. Each participating nation can nominate up to eight athletes for each individual Rollerski World Cup. These do not have to be the same throughout the season. But there are exceptions that allow more athletes as soon as a nation is particularly successful. In addition, the respective previous year's World Cup winner always has the right to start again. In the course of a season, each participating nation has the opportunity to use a total of 15 different athletes. Two teams per nation can start in the team sprints or relay races, but only the best team is included in the nation ranking.

The most successful athlete is Alfio di Gregorio , who won the overall World Cup four times. In the women’s category , Mateja Bogatec is the most successful starter to date.

Prizes, medals and trophies

The respective winner as well as the second and third place finishers of a World Cup race will receive a medal and prize money, which according to the rules must amount to at least 500 euros. At the end of the season, the first three of the overall World Cup will receive a trophy. The World Cup leader wears a yellow shirt at every race . In the junior classification, this is red.
