His greatest successes include two bronze medals that he won in the team sprint at the2005 World Championshipsand2007 World Championships.

Career

Kožíšek, who starts for Dukla Liberec, made his international debut in February 2002 at the FIS races in Jablonec nad Nisou . A year later he achieved fifth place in the sprint in the same place and was given the opportunity to compete in a team sprint race as part of the cross-country world cup for the first time two weeks later in Oberhof . Together with Christian Sieler , he was the only team to be eliminated in the semi-finals and was 13th and last at the end. At the following Junior World Championships in 2003 in Sollefteå , he was 33rd over 30 km and 19th in the sprint without medal success.

In October 2003 Kožíšek was used for the first time in an individual World Cup in Düsseldorf , but was 63rd far behind the points. In the team sprint, too, he could not keep up with the top of the world with Martin Koukal and was 16th out of 23 teams in the end. After he remained without points at the World Cup in Nové Město na Moravě in January, he was initially relegated to the B-squad and did not start in the World Cup until the end of the season, but only at the FIS races in Nové Město na Moravě and in the frame of the Cross-Country Continental Cup in Soldier Hollow .

At the beginning of the 2004/05 World Cup season Kožíšek succeeded in Kuusamo as 30th for the first time to win World Cup points. Although he also made it into the points in the sprint in Bern , he remained a member of the B squad for the time being. At the beginning of January he won the FIS race in Jablonec nad Nisou. Back in the World Cup, Kožíšek in Nové Město made it into the top 20 for the first time in an individual World Cup in 14th place. At the Nordic World Ski Championships in Oberstdorf , he surprisingly won the bronze medal together with Martin Koukal in the team sprint in February. Before that, he was only 38th in the sprint race. In December 2005 Kožíšek ran in Nové Město as eighth of the sprint for the first time among the top ten. Before that he had cracked the top 10 for the first time with the season in Beitostølen .

At the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin Kožíšek reached ninth place in the relay and tenth in the team sprint. In the sprint, he finished 22nd. At the military World Ski Championships in Andermatt in 2006 , he finished eighth over the 15 km individual distance. In the following winter he took part in the Tour de Ski for the first time and finished it in 48th place in the overall standings after rather mixed results. A few weeks he traveled with the team to the Nordic World Ski Championships 2007 in Sapporo, Japan , where he again won the bronze medal in the team sprint in Milan Šperl .

Dušan Kožíšek (13) and Renato Pasini (8) at the Tour de Ski 2007/08

On March 25, 2007 Kožíšek won the Slavic Cup race from Kremnica after he was second in the pursuit the day before. In the World Cup, Kožíšek could still not call up any constant performance. He broke off the 2007/08 Tour de Ski prematurely in Nové Město. At the following Sprint World Cup in Canmore he won World Cup points again after a long time in the second race. At the end of the season he surprised everyone in Lahti with a good sixth place, which brought him 25th place in the Sprint World Cup and 58th place in the overall World Cup. At the 2008 Military World Ski Championships in Hochfilzen he was 27th over 15 km freestyle.

In August 2008 Kožíšek started in Oroslavje for the first time in a competition in the Rollerski World Cup . In his first race he finished second on the podium after 23 km. At the beginning of the 2008/09 World Cup season he narrowly missed the podium with the relay in Gällivare and ended up fourth. At the Nordic World Ski Championships in Liberec in 2009 , he went without a medal for the first time after 2005 and 2007. The following cross-country skiing World Cup final in 2009 he finished in 58th place. At the Czech Championships in Horní Mísecky , he ran in seventh place over the 10 km distance in classic style.

Dušan Kožíšek at the Tour de Ski 2009/10

Although he was rarely able to attract attention in the following season 2009/10 and Kožíšek also prematurely canceled the Tour de Ski 2009/10 , he was again part of the Czech squad for lack of good alternatives at the 2010 Winter Olympics . After 35th place in the sprint, he ran in the team sprint with his partner Martin Koukal in sixth place. In contrast to Koukal, he did not belong to the season that secured bronze. At the 2010 Military World Ski Championships in Cogne , he was 17th over 15 km freestyle. At the Czech Championships in Harrachov , which took place a little later , he barely missed a first national medal in fourth.

In the following winter Kožíšek broke off the Tour de Ski again and did not start in the pursuit of Dobbiaco . On January 15, 2011, he celebrated his first World Cup podium with third place in the Liberec sprint. He had already drawn attention to himself in seventh place in the qualification. After being at the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships 2011 in Norway Oslo again remained without a medal, he started in March in cross-country skiing Alpine Cup . He won the sprint and 10 km races in Ramsau am Dachstein . At the FIS races in Harrachov, he celebrated another victory at the end of the season. After he had had a weak start in the World Cup the following winter, Kožíšek was back in the various Continental Cups. In Štrbské Pleso he celebrated two second places in the Slavic Cup. In Nové Město he ran away from the competition and won the sprint. He achieved two more podium places in March over 10 and 15 km in Kremnica . In August he took part in the cross-country skiing Australia / New Zealand Cup for the first time. Although there were no podium finishes, there were enough fourth places in Snow Farm and Falls Creek.

After poor results in the various series, Kožíšek was again part of the Czech team at the 2013 Nordic World Ski Championships in Val di Fiemme . After a disappointing 64th place in the sprint, he finished eighth in the team sprint together with Aleš Razým . a year later he won another sprint race in the Slavic Cup in Nové Město. A short time later Kožíšek started in Sochi at the 2014 Winter Olympics . After a 41st place in the sprint, he was ninth in the team sprint with Aleš Razým. Four weeks after the games Kožíšek took part again in the military ski world championship and reached rank 30 over 15 km freestyle in Sodankylä .

On January 18, 2015, he made his debut in the Cross-Country Skiing Marathon Cup at the Dolomitenlauf in Lienz and immediately achieved a top 10 position with eighth place. With 32 points, he was 50th overall in the Marathon Cup at the end of the 2014/15 season . At the Nordic World Ski Championships 2015 in Falun , he was eliminated in qualifying for the sprint competition as 51st. In the team sprint he finished sixth with his partner. After another 41st place over 15 km, he was ninth with the relay.

At the end of the 2014/15 season Kožíšek was excluded from the team and received no more training opportunities as a civilian athlete at the Dukla Liberec Army Club. He then traveled to Oslo on the Holmenkollen on his own and began his individual training there. He also organized the strength and conditioning training himself.

At the beginning of the 2015/16 season he was accepted back into the national team.
