Nathalie Schwarz (born July 29, 1993 in Linz ) is an Austrian cross-country skier .

Career

Nathalie Schwarz, who competes for the SU Zwettl club , is the daughter of the former two-time Olympic participant Alois Schwarz , who died in a traffic accident in 1999 while driving home from a race. Nathalie and her mother survived the accident. A short time after the accident, Nathalie's sister Magdalena was born, who is also a successful young cross-country skier. Schwarz lives with her mother and sister in Zwettl an der Rodl in Upper Austria, approx. 20 km north of Linz.

Since 2008 she has mainly competed in the Alpine Cup races. In 2011 and 2012 she became Austrian sprint champion. In February 2011 she won bronze in the sprint at the European Youth Olympic Festival in Liberec . At the subsequent European cross-country skiing championship in 2011 in Ramsau am Dachstein , she also won gold in the sprint. She had her first World Cup participation in the Tour de Ski 2013/14 , which she did not finish. At the World Cup race in January 2014 in Szklarska Poręba , Poland , she achieved her first World Cup points with 23rd place in the 10 km mass start race.

In January 2014 it was announced that Schwarz would take part in the Winter Olympics in Sochi for Austria . On February 11, 2014, Schwarz contested her first race at the Olympics. She crashed in qualifying and finished 53rd. So she did not qualify for the main competition. Furthermore, she took 38th place over 10 km classic and 13th place in the relay. In March 2014 she won the 5 km pursuit race at the Austrian championship. She finished the Tour de Ski 2015 in 20th place overall. At the Nordic World Ski Championships in 2015 in Falun , she came in 65th place over 10 km freestyle, 38th place in the skiathlon and 35th place in the 30 km classic mass start race.
