Lari Lehtonen (born June 21, 1987 in Imatra ) is a Finnish cross-country skier .

Career

Lehtonen first appeared at the European Youth Olympic Festival 2005. There he won gold over 7.5 km classic and silver over 10 km freestyle. He ran his first World Cup race in March 2008 in Lahti , which he finished classically with 39th place over 15 km. In January 2010 he was able to achieve his first World Cup points in Otepää with 18th place over 15 km classic. He reached 43rd place in the 50 km mass start race at the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver . At the Nordic World Ski Championships in Oslo in 2011 , he finished 43rd in the skiathlon . In the Tour de Ski 2011/12 and the Tour de Ski 2012/13 he reached the 44th and 42nd place. His best results at the Nordic World Ski Championships 2013 in Val di Fiemme were 20th place over 15 km freestyle and fifth place with the relay. He finished the Tour de Ski 2013/14 in 14th place. His best results at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi were 23rd place in the 50 km mass start race and sixth place in the relay. In March 2014 he achieved his best World Cup race so far in Lahti with 15th place over 15 km freestyle. He finished the season in 48th place in the overall World Cup ranking and in 35th place in the distance ranking. At the beginning of the 2014/15 season, he finished 26th at the Nordic Opening in Lillehammer . At the Nordic World Ski Championships in Falun in 2015 , he came 23rd in the 15 km freestyle and 22nd place in the skiathlon. In March 2016 he finished 24th in the Ski Tour Canada . In the 2016/17 season he finished 15th in the World Cup mini tour in Lillehammer and 35th in the World Cup final in Québec . His best placings at the Nordic World Ski Championships 2017 in Lahti were ninth place in the skiathlon and fifth place with the relay. The following season he finished 47th in the Ruka Triple and 37th in the World Cup Finals in Falun. At the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang , he ran to 33rd place in the skiathlon, 31st place over 15 km freestyle and fourth place with the relay. The following year he won 35th place in the 50 km mass start race at the Nordic World Ski Championships in Seefeld in Tyrol .

In 2014 and 2015 Lehtonen was Finnish champion over 30 km classic. In March 2017 he won the Finnish championships in Kontiolahti over 10 km freestyle.
