Jonas Baumann (born March 27, 1990 in Lohn ) is a Swiss cross-country skier .

Career

Baumann took part in junior races until 2010. He ran his first World Cup race in December 2009 in Davos , which he finished with 73rd place over 15 km freestyle. At the Swiss cross-country skiing championships in 2011 he won bronze in the 20 km pursuit race. From 2011 to 2013 he mainly competed in the cross-country alpine cup . He came on the podium three times, including a win, and came third in the overall standings in the 2011/12 season. In the Tour de Ski 2012/13 and 2013/14 he reached the 58th and 40th place. His best placings at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi were 24th place over 15 km classic and seventh place with the relay. He finished the Tour de Ski 2015 in 22nd place. In January 2015, he became Swiss champion in the 15 km freestyle and 15 km pursuit race in Kandersteg . His best results at the Nordic World Ski Championships 2015 in Falun were 18th place in the 50 km mass start race and fifth place in the relay. After 40th place at the Nordic Opening in Ruka at the beginning of the 2015/16 season, he finished 20th at the Tour de Ski 2016 and 26th place at the Ski Tour Canada . In the 2016/17 season he took 55th place in the World Cup Mini Tour in Lillehammer and 21st place in the 2016/17 Tour de Ski . At the season highlight, the Nordic World Ski Championships 2017 in Lahti , he came in 17th place over 15 km classic, 13th place in the skiathlon and fourth place with the relay. At the end of the season he finished 28th in the World Cup finals in Quebec and reached 46th place in the overall World Cup. At the start of the 2017/18 season, he finished 24th in the Ruka Triple and 29th in the Tour de Ski 2017/18 . At the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang , he ran to 39th place in the skiathlon and 11th place in the relay. At the end of the season he came in 43rd place at the World Cup finals in Falun and reached 47th place in the overall World Cup.

In the 2018/19 season Baumann took 40th place in the Lillehammer Triple and 32nd place in the Tour de Ski 2018/19 . At the season highlight, the Nordic World Ski Championships 2019 in Seefeld in Tirol , he ran to 26th place in the skiathlon , 14th place over 15 km classic and eighth place with the relay. At the end of March 2019, he finished second in the sprint and 50 km mass start races at the Swiss Championships in Engelberg . After 24th place in the Ruka Triple at the beginning of the 2019/20 season, he achieved 20th place in the Tour de Ski 2019/20 and 30th place in the ski tour and thus reached 39th place in the overall World Cup.
