history

The area was probably settled in pre-Roman times; an urn field found in Kapfing in 1982 dates from the 12th century BC. In 927 AD, the Archbishop of Salzburg, Adalbert II., Was given a property ad Funzinam (on the Finsingbach or Finsing in Uderns ). This is the earliest mention of a village in the Zillertal. Kapfing is first mentioned as Chaephing 1299 in a document in which a Kapfinger, Konrad, appears as one of the witnesses. In later documents the place is called Chäp (p) fing , Khäpfing or Köpfing . In 1658 six houses burned down after being struck by lightning.

Kapfing was initially a main team (municipality) of the Salzburg court Kropfsberg - Zell or Fügen. During the Bavarian occupation, it was merged with Fügen, Fügenberg and Pankrazberg to form the large community of Fügen in 1811 . After the First World War, efforts were made in Kapfing to become an independent municipality again, but this was not realized. However, the Kapfing volunteer fire brigade became independent, until then a platoon of  the Fügen volunteer fire brigade. In 2012 the local council decided to merge it with the Fügen fire brigade.
