Markus Weeger (born September 25, 1991 in Erlangen ) is a German cross-country skier .

Athletic career

Markus Weeger started cross-country skiing at the age of four. After initially training in Erlangen and the Upper Palatinate, he switched to the ski boarding school in Oberstdorf in 2007 due to his greater sporting ambitions . In 2009 Weeger was accepted into the sports promotion of the Bundeswehr.

Weeger celebrated a first respectable success at the German championships in 2009, where despite his 17 years he reached a strong 15th place in the 10 km freestyle. After good performance in the Alpine Cup, he was finally nominated for the Nordic Junior World Ski Championships in Otepää in 2011 . There he achieved his greatest successes to date, when he won two precious metals with his victory in the 20 km skiathlon and second place in the 10 km freestyle. In March 2014 he became German sprint champion.

Markus Weeger is a member of the sports promotion team B. In 2011 he was named “Newcomer of the Year” by the DSV .

In April 2017 he ended his active career as a competitive athlete.
