Thomas Moriggl (born February 23, 1981 in Schlanders ) is a former Italian cross-country skier .

Career

Moriggl made his debut in Cogne in December 2002 in the 30 km mass start race in classic technique in the World Cup , where he finished 58th. He achieved his first World Cup points in March 2004 with 3rd place over 30 km in free technique . Together with third place in the 15 km freestyle race in Lahti in 2005, this was also the best World Cup result of his career. Moriggl achieved his best placement in the overall World Cup in the 2010/11 season with 35th place. In the Tour de Ski , he also achieved his best placement in 2010/11 , with the eighth best running time in the final mountain pursuit; In 2012 he also achieved the fifth-best running time on the final stage.

In 2005 , 2011 and 2013 Moriggl took part in the World Ski Championships, where he achieved his best result with 21st place in Oslo 2011 in the 50 km mass start competition in freestyle. In 2010 Moriggl was also part of the Italian team at the Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver . There he finished over 15 km freestyle as well as 24th in the skiathlon . In February 2011 he won the Gsieser Tal-Lauf over 42 km freestyle.

Following the Tour de Ski 2013/14 , Moriggl did not contest any more races in the World Cup. He ended his career after the 2013/14 season.
