Chappaz took part in U18 and U20 races in the Alpencup until 2019 and finished eighth in the 2017/18 season and first place in the U20 overall standings in the 2018/19 season. At the 2018 Junior World Ski Championships in Goms , he finished 67th in the skiathlon and 23rd place over 10 km classic. The following year he won the gold medal in the 10 km freestyle at the Junior World Ski Championships in Lahti . He also came in 14th place in the 30 km mass start race, eighth place with the relay and fourth place in the sprint. At the beginning of the 2019/20 season, he started in Pokljuka in the Alpine Cup for the first time and finished 18th in the sprint and 16th in the 15 km freestyle. At the following Alpine Cup in St. Ulrich am Pillersee , he won the sprint and 10 km freestyle. He then completed his first World Cup races at the Tour de Ski 2019/20 , which he ended prematurely after four stages . He got his first World Cup points in Toblach with the 13th place over 15 km freestyle. In February 2020 he won in Piancavallo in the sprint and over 15 km classic and thus took second place in the overall ranking of the Alpine Cup. At the U23 World Championships 2020 in Oberwiesenthal , he ran on 41st place over 15 km classic and 30th place in the sprint.
