Lydia Judy Hiernickel (born December 23, 1996 ) is a Swiss cross-country skier .

Career

Hiernickel, who competes for the Gardes Frontiere, took part in U18 and U20 races in the Alpencup from 2011 to 2016 . In the 2014/15 and 2015/16 season she finished second in the overall U20 ranking. Her best placements at the European Youth Olympic Winter Festival 2013 in Predeal were tenth place over 5 km classic and fifth place with the mixed relay. At the Junior World Ski Championships in 2014 in Fiemme Valley , she came 20th in the skiathlon , 18th over 5 km classic and fifth place with the relay. Her best results at the Junior World Ski Championships 2015 in Almaty were seventh place in the sprint and sixth place in the relay. In January 2016 she completed her first World Cup race in Nové Město , which she finished with eighth place in the relay. Her best results at the 2016 Junior World Ski Championships in Râșnov were 12th place over 5 km classic and fifth place with the relay. At the U23 World Ski Championships in 2017 in Soldier Hollow , she finished 28th in the sprint, 26th in the skiathlon and 24th in 10 km freestyle. In December 2017 she ran her first individual race in the World Cup in Davos , which she finished in 64th place over 10 km freestyle. At the U23 World Ski Championships in Goms in 2018 , she achieved 15th place over 10 km classic and 12th place in skiathlon. In February 2018 she came in 49th place over 10 km freestyle and seventh place with the relay at the Olympic Winter Games in Pyeongchang .

In the 2018/19 season, Hiernickel achieved eight top ten placements, including third place in the 15 km mass start race in Nové Město , and second place in the overall ranking of the Alpine Cup. At the U23 World Ski Championships in Lahti in 2019 , she finished 19th in the 15 km mass start race and 13th place over 10 km freestyle. At the season highlight, the Nordic World Ski Championships 2019 in Seefeld in Tyrol , she was tenth with the relay.

Hiernickel has won ten medals at Swiss championships so far. In 2015, 2016 , 2018 and 2019 , she became the Swiss champion in pursuit. (Status: end of season 2018/19)
