Kühne has mainly competed in the Alpine Cup since 2005 . He has taken 15 podium finishes so far, including two wins. In the 2013/14 season he finished third and in the 2010/11 season first place in the overall ranking of the Alpine Cup (as of the end of the 2015/16 season). He ran his first World Cup race in January 2011 in Otepää , which he finished classically with 37th place over 15 km. He got his first World Cup points at the beginning of February 2011 in Rybinsk with the 26th place in the 20 km pursuit race. A day later, with third place in the relay, he made his first podium in the World Cup. At the German cross-country skiing championship 2011 in Hirschau he won gold over 10 km freestyle and silver over 15 km classic. He finished the Tour de Ski 2011/12 and Tour de Ski 2012/13 in 46th and 39th place respectively. At the Nordic World Ski Championships in 2013 in Val di Fiemme , he finished 46th in the skiathlon and 44th in the 50 km mass start race. He finished the 2013/14 season with 69th place in the overall World Cup ranking and 47th place in the distance ranking. At the Tour de Ski 2013/14 he reached 42nd place. In the 2014/15 season he took 78th place at the Nordic Opening in Lillehammer and 39th place at the Tour de Ski 2015 .
