Christine Nestler , b. Söldner (born September 27, 1940 in Geyer ) is a former cross-country skier from the GDR .

Career

Nestler, who comes from the mountain town of Geyer in the Ore Mountains , came into contact with winter sports at the local sports club SSV Geyer, but was then delegated to SC Traktor Oberwiesenthal . From 1959 she belonged to the national elite in cross-country skiing in the GDR. She achieved her first national success at the GDR ski championships in 1959 in Altenberg , where she belonged to the second-placed team of her club together with Christa Göhler and Renate Borges . In the following years she was able to achieve more and more top placements. In 1960 in Klingenthal she took fourth place over 10 kilometers and again second place with the relay. In the following winter she paused because of the birth of her daughter Ute (born December 31, 1960). After returning to the cross-country ski run, she achieved two fourth places on the individual distances and again the silver rank in the relay at the national championships in 1962 in Schmiedefeld am Rennsteig . It was somewhat more successful the following year when she won three silver medals in Klingenthal.

At the Olympic Winter Games in Innsbruck in 1964 , Nestler was part of the all-German team . In two individual starts in Seefeld in Tirol , she reached 17th place over five kilometers, two and a half minutes behind Klawdija Bojarskich , and 13th place over 10 kilometers, three minutes behind Bojarskich. In the 3 x 5 kilometer relay she took fourth place together with Rita Czech-Blasel and Renate Borges. Subsequently, she won the title over five kilometers and two silver medals over ten kilometers and in the relay at the GDR ski championships in Oberhof .

In the following year 1965 she won both titles over the individual distances in Johanngeorgenstadt . In 1966 she was able to defend both titles in Brotterode and also won relay gold together with Christine Zahn and Renate Köhler. The GDR championship in 1967 in Mühlleithen was similarly successful, but Nestler had to be content with silver over ten kilometers, eight seconds behind Anna Unger . At the 1968 Winter Olympics in Grenoble , the GDR started with an independent team for the first time. In the competitions in Autrans she reached twelfth place over five kilometers, 38 seconds behind Toini Gustafsson, and ninth over ten kilometers, almost two and a half minutes behind Gustafsson. There was also a sixth place in the relay, which she ran with Renate Köhler and Gudrun Schmidt . At her last GDR ski championships in Oberhof at the end of her career, more than two minutes behind Schmidt, she finished seventh over 10 kilometers and won her last relay gold together with Renate Köhler and Karin Scheidel .

Together with her husband Heinz Nestler , she then trained cross-country skiers in Oberwiesenthal , the most successful of which were Barbara Petzold , Petra Hinze and Ute Noack .

Ute Nestler is a daughter, Andy Kühne is a grandson of the Nestlers.
