Gudrun Schmidt (cross-country skier)

Gudrun Schmidt (born February 7, 1941 in Zeulenroda ) is a former German cross-country skier who was once GDR champion in cross-country skiing . She took part in the Winter Olympics for the German Democratic Republic in 1968 and started working for SC Motor Zella-Mehlis when she was active .

Career

At the GDR ski championships in 1963 , she was fifth and only missed the bronze medal over the 5 kilometers by one second. She won her first medals at the GDR ski championships at the GDR ski championships in 1965 . While she just missed a medal over the five kilometers in fourth place, she won the silver medal over the 10 kilometers behind Christine Nestler , about a minute behind. In addition, together with Sigrid Czekay and Luise Preiss , she won the silver medal for SC Motor Zella-Mehlis in the 3 x 5 kilometer relay behind the first relay from SC Dynamo Klingenthal . Gudrun Schmidt won her only GDR championship title at the GDR ski championships in 1968 . While she won the bronze and silver medal over the 5 kilometers and in the relay, she prevailed over the 10 kilometers and won the GDR championship title ahead of Christel Thiel and Anna Unger .

Before the GDR championship title, she was nominated by the GDR National Olympic Committee for the 1968 Winter Olympics in Grenoble and competed there three times. In the 5-kilometer run she was 13th and over the 10 kilometers she was 14th. Together with Renate Köhler and Christine Nestler , they took sixth place in the relay competition.
