Michail Sjamjonau (born February 6, 1986 in Ostrow , Pskov Oblast ) is a Belarusian cross-country skier and biathlete .

Career

Sjamjonau started cross-country skiing for the first time in November 2003 in the Continental Cup in Kirovsk and finished 29th over 10 km freestyle and 14th place over 10 km classic. He ran his first cross-country world cup race in January 2007 in Rybinsk , which he finished with 29th place in the 30 km mass start race and thus also got his first world cup points. After the 2008/09 season he switched to biathlon. He had his first appearance on the international sports stage as part of the 2009 Summer Biathlon World Championships in Oberhof . In the cross-country competitions he started in the sprint and finished 24th, in the competitions on roller skis he finished 48th in the sprint and was taken out of the race as a lapped athlete in the pursuit race. With Lyudmila Kalintschyk , Darja Domratschawa and Sjarhej Daschkewitsch he was also eighth in the mixed relay competition. In winter Sjamjonau made his debut in the first races of the IBU Cup 2009/10 in Idre . After missing the points in the first sprint as 63rd, he was already in 28th place in the second race. At the start of the 2009/10 Biathlon World Cup in Östersund , the Belarusian ran 95th in the sprint, with further appearances in the Sprint races of the season followed. In Oberhof he was able to place 31st in the points for the first time in the first sprint race of 2010. Since there was no pursuit in Oberhof, Sjamjonau had to wait until the World Cup in Oslo before he could start a pursuit race for the first time after finishing 46th in the sprint. There he finished 44th. At the end of the season he achieved 75th place in the sprint in Khanty-Mansiysk and reached 103rd place in the overall World Cup. After the season he switched back to cross-country skiing. At the beginning of the 2009/10 season he came in 40th place at the Nordic Opening in Kuusamo . In January 2011 he was fourth in the skiathlon at the Winter Universiade in Erzurum . At the season highlight, the Nordic World Ski Championships 2011 in Oslo , he finished 50th in the 50 km mass start race and 35th place over 15 km classic.

In the 2011/12 season Sjamjonau took 66th place at the Nordic Opening in Kuusamo and 49th place at the 2011/12 Tour de Ski . In February 2012 in Rybinsk he achieved his best individual World Cup result with 11th place in the 15 km mass start race. After finishing 21st in the 15 km freestyle in Gällivare at the beginning of the following season, he was 33rd at the Nordic Opening in Kuusamo. At the Tour de Ski 2012/13 he finished 35th. His best results at the Nordic World Ski Championships in 2013 in Val di Fiemme were 52nd place over 15 km freestyle and tenth place in the team sprint. At the end of the season he finished 14th in the 50 km mass start race in Oslo and reached 72nd place in the overall World Cup. At the beginning of the 2013/14 season he finished 37th at the Nordic Opening in Kuusamo. At the following Winter Universiade in Lago di Tesero , he won the silver medal in the 10 km freestyle. At the Tour de Ski 2013/14 he came in 33rd place in the overall ranking. His best placings at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi were 17th in the 50 km mass start race and 14th in the relay. In March 2014, he became the Belarusian sprint champion. In the 2014/15 season he made it into the points twice in nine appearances in the World Cup. His best placings at the 2015 Nordic World Ski Championships in Falun were 12th in the 15 km freestyle and 11th in the team sprint. In the 2015/16 season , he did not score points in any World Cup races. At the Nordic Opening in Ruka he achieved 74th and at the Tour de Ski 2016 52nd place in the overall ranking. His best placings at the Nordic World Ski Championships 2017 in Lahti were 30th place in the 50 km mass start race and 15th place together with Michail Kuklin in the team sprint and at the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, 40th place over 15 km freestyle and 14th place. Rank together with Jury Astapenka in the team sprint.
