The Berliner Operngruppe eV is a registered non-profit association based in Berlin , which is dedicated to the rediscovery and performance of seldom performed operas in semi-staged form. The artistic focus is on Italian operas from the bel canto era.

history

The club was created in 2007 on the model of the London Chelsea Opera Group . The Berlin opera group presented itself to the public for the first time in May 2010 with a performance of Giuseppe Verdi's first opera Oberto, Conte di San Bonifacio in Radialsystem V in Berlin. In the following years, performances of Gaetano Donizetti's Maria di Rohan , Giuseppe Verdi's Attila , Vincenzo Bellini's Beatrice di Tenda , Giuseppe Verdi's I masnadieri and the German premiere of Gaetano Donizetti's Betly , the Berlin premiere of Giuseppe Verdi's Stiffelio and his Giovanna d'Arco followed and in February 2019 the Berlin premiere of Giacomo Puccini's Edgar . The Berlin opera group has been performing in the Konzerthaus on Gendarmenmarkt since 2013 .

For their idea of ​​bringing together professionals and music students with selected amateurs in choir and orchestra every year in order to rediscover operas that are seldom heard together with prominent international soloists, the Berlin opera group was chosen as the "Selected Location 2012" in the ideas competition 365 Landmarks in the Land of Ideas . The artistic director of the Berlin opera group is the conductor Felix Krieger .
