Laurence Rochat (born August 1, 1979 ) is a former Swiss cross-country skier .

Career

Rochat started at her first international races, Continental Cups and FIS races at the age of sixteen . In early 1996 she took part in the Junior World Championship in Asiago and was 48th over 5 kilometers. In the next two years she improved these results and finished nineteenth and fifth on the same route, and she was also a multiple Swiss champion. In December 1998 Rochat was nominated for the cross-country skiing world cup for the first time , but until the end of 2000 she did not get any places in the points up to 30. By this time she had already won two FIS races and finished some on the podium. 2001 was a successful year for Rochat, she finished 27th in the World Cup and achieved the top 20 places in the World Cup for the first time. The upward trend continued in 2002, too, when she took part in the Olympic Games in Salt Lake City for the first time, where she surprisingly won the bronze medal with the relay team led by Andrea Huber , Brigitte Albrecht-Loretan and Natascia Leonardi Cortesi . Also in the team, she finished ninth in a World Cup race at the end of the year.

In the next few years Rochat achieved further World Cup points and podium results in FIS races, only in the major events it remained largely unsuccessful. At the 2006 Olympic Games in Turin she missed the top ten places with the team, she did not take part in many world championships, in 2005 she achieved eighth place in the team sprint. At the Tour de Ski , which was held for the first time in 2007 , she gave up and was not rated.

Overall, Rochat's best World Cup result is a fourth place with the team in Bern in 2004, in the individual she only managed to jump into the top 10, as eighth in the sprint in December 2005 in Vernon. She is also a fourteen-time Swiss champion. In 2007 she won the Engadin Skimarathon .

In February 2010 Rochat won the Transjurassienne over the 25 km short distance in the classic technique. After the 2009/2010 season, she ended her cross-country skiing career. Professionally, she was able to join her long-term sponsor, the watch manufacturer Audemars Piguet , in the event sector.
