Børre Næss starts for the Efteloet IL association . He has been active internationally since 2001. At first he ran in FIS and Continental Cup races as well as at the Junior World Championships without any notable results. At the end of the 2002/03 season, the Norwegian competed in the Nordic World Cup for the first time in Oslo and finished 46th over 50 kilometers. Nevertheless, it took almost a year before he was allowed to start again in the World Cup after several good results in lower-class races. It was the sprint specialist's first outing on his special route and he finished 48th in Trondheim . Only days later he won his first World Cup points in Drammen in 16th and then came in ninth in the top ten in Lahti . After all, he came in third in the last sprint of the season in Pragelato . From now on Næss' World Cup appearances became more frequent. At the Norwegian championships in 2005, he finished behind Jens Arne Svartedal in silver. At the end of the 2004/05 season he won a World Cup sprint in Lahti for the first time and finished the season in 19th place in the overall World Cup and fifth in the Sprint World Cup. The following year he became the Norwegian sprint champion . In the 2006/07 season he won his second Sprint World Cup victory in Drammen. Also in the season he came in second place in Changchun and at the end of the season he reached seventh place in the Sprint World Cup. The following season , he won the Canmore sprint and finished second in Stockholm . In the Sprint World Cup, he finished ninth. In addition, Næss was third in the Norwegian sprint championships in 2008 and 2009. In January 2009 he came third at the World Cup in Otepää . From 2010 to 2012 he mainly competed in the Scandinavian Cup races . He mostly achieved placements outside of the points. He has been taking part in cross-country skiing marathon cup races since 2012 . He achieved his best placement so far in 2013 with fourth place in the Tartu Maraton . In 2012 and 2013 he won the 40 km classic at Vindfjelløpet .
