Hou Yuxia

Hou Yuxia ( Chinese  侯玉霞 , Pinyin Hóu Yùxiá ) (born May 28, 1979 in Jilin ) is a Chinese biathlete and cross-country skier .

Hou Yuxia is a sports soldier and lives in Baishan . She has been practicing biathlon since 1993. Since 2003 she has been a member of the Chinese national team. That year she made her debut in the European Cup in an individual (22nd) in Obertilliach . After a subsequent eighth place in the sprint, she moved up to the World Cup team. She made her debut there in a sprint in Pokljuka and scored World Cup points in her first race. The highlight of the season was participation in the 2004 Biathlon World Championships in Oberhof . In the sprint, she was 14 here and achieved her best ever World Cup result at the major event. In the following season she also achieved several good placings such as a twelfth sprint place in Antholz .

But only the next season 2005/06 should bring their breakthrough. In Hochfilzen , Hou finished fifth in the singles for the first time in the top 10 and achieved her best result so far. She reached the top 10 five times this season and came in 25th overall. Season highlight was their participation in the 2006 Olympic Winter Games of Turin , where she sporty but let down as best ranking achieved a 28th place in the mass start. It was therefore not used in the season. In the 2006/07 season , in which the Chinese women's team performed particularly strongly, Hou fell against their teammates and did not reach a World Cup point.

Before Yuxia switched to biathlon, she was a cross-country skier. It started about five courses at the 2002 Winter Olympics and achieved placements in the 40 range. Since 2007, she has increasingly started again as a cross-country skier. In the World Cup, she reached a twelfth place in the 10-kilometer race in Changchun and competed in the following Nordic World Ski Championships in 2007 in Sapporo over three routes. The best placement was a tenth season rank.
