Anti Saarepuu (born March 26, 1983 in Võru ) is an Estonian cross-country skier .

Career

Even at the beginning of his career, Saarepuu mainly focused on sprint competitions. In the sprint competition at the Junior World Championships in 2003 in Sollefteå, he made it into the top ten with ninth place, while he was only 38th over the classic 10 kilometers. Saarepuu had his first World Cup start in March 2004 in Lahti , where he just missed the final in 33rd place. In the following 2004/05 season he was accepted into the World Cup team and made the leap into the finals on his first appearance, the World Cup opener in Düsseldorf , and won his first World Cup points in 21st place. He managed to survive the qualification in all of his starts in sprint competitions in the World Cup. His best result was in Gothenburg when he reached the B final and finished seventh in the final ranking. In the team sprint in Pragelato, he fought for fifth place together with Andrus Veerpalu . At the end of the season he finished eleventh in the overall ranking of the Jumping World Cup and 34th place in the overall World Cup. At the Nordic World Ski Championships 2005 in Oberstdorf , Saarepuu was able to build on the performances previously shown in the World Cup. In the sprint competition, he took tenth place and as the final runner of the Estonian relay, he fought for ninth place.

Also in the 2005/06 season Saarepuu managed to build on the good results of the previous year. However, he only made it into the top ten at the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin . In the sprint he finished eighth and in the team sprint together with Priit Narusk he finished 14th. At the end of the season he was 20th overall in the Sprint World Cup. After initially poor results in the 2006/07 season , Saarepuu was able to stabilize his performance in the middle of the season, but then fell ill and could not take part in the Nordic World Ski Championships 2007 in Sapporo . After his illness, he clearly failed in the qualification of the last World Cup competitions. In the 2007/08 season he did not succeed in reconnecting to the top of the world. Except for the sprint in Rybinsk , he always missed the finals. At the start of the 2008/09 season, Saarepuu qualified for the quarter-finals for the first time in almost a year at the sprint in Kuusamo . There he was involved in a fall and had to be content with 29th place. After a 24th place in the sprint in Düsseldorf , he achieved his first top ten placement since 2006 in Rybinsk with eighth place. He was also able to achieve this result at the 2009 Nordic World Ski Championships in Liberec with victory in the B final and thus seventh place in the Confirm the final ranking.
