Jan Schindelmeiser (born December 17, 1963 in Flensburg ) is a German football official . Most recently, as a member of the board of VfB Stuttgart, he was responsible for the sporting management of the club.

Life

Schindelmeiser grew up in Uslar in Lower Saxony , where his parents still live today. In 1981 he started his career as an active soccer player at Göttingen 05 , today 1. SC Göttingen 05. At the age of 21 he contracted glandular fever , which ruined his ambitions to play high-class football. Nevertheless, Schindelmeiser played a total of 246 games in the football league from 1984 to 1994 for KSV Hessen Kassel and Göttingen 05, where he also published the stadium magazine. At the same time he was studying for a master’s degree at the University of Göttingen with a combination of sports , journalism , politics and business administration , which he completed with a grade of 1.7. He wrote his master's thesis with Arnd Krüger . In 1994 he acquired the DFB- Trainer A license .

He then took on the position of manager at Eintracht Braunschweig from 1996 to 1998 and at Tennis Borussia Berlin from 1998 to 2000 . In 1999, Schindelmeiser hired Mirko Slomka from Hanover for Tennis Borussia as a junior coordinator and A-junior trainer. Slomka also made contact with Ralf Rangnick , who later suggested Schindelmeiser as manager in Hoffenheim. After his time in Berlin, he worked internationally as a freelance management consultant for five years ; from April 1, 2005, he was managing director and manager of FC Augsburg . He ended this activity after three months, at the end of July 2005, after the sudden death of his wife Bettina.

In July 2006, Schindelmeiser and Rangnick started their time together at 1899 Hoffenheim - Schindelmeiser initially as managers. With two promotions in a row, the club managed to march through from the Regional Football League South to the Bundesliga . In January 2009 Schindelmeiser was promoted to managing director and manager of TSG 1899 Hoffenheim Fußball-Spielbetriebs GmbH ; he was primarily responsible for the sports division. On June 30, 2010, he left his position as manager at TSG Hoffenheim at his own request .

After his time in Hoffenheim, Jan Schindelmeiser continued to work independently in the professional football sector in Germany and abroad, advising sponsors and investors and for clubs and individuals. Despite numerous offers from professional clubs, Schindelmeiser did not initially take on a managerial position at a club.

On July 8, 2016, the Supervisory Board of VfB Stuttgart appointed Schindelmeiser to the Board of Sport to succeed Robin Dutt . After he was promoted to the Bundesliga as second division champion with VfB Stuttgart at the end of the 2016/17 season , the club relieved him of his duties with immediate effect on August 4, 2017 and finally ended the cooperation at the end of September 2017.
