intention

»Science, technology, society and art are linked phenomena that can only do their job in conscious communication with one another. Art is not only an object, it is also a means of communication. They understand information theory and cybernetics as a process of perception. This results in new tasks for free creative design. The aim of the group Parallel is to address forces acting in this direction. « - Definition for the work of the group.

»The discussion about the meaning of art in a technical society continues. The discomfort that still grips artists, art critics and audiences has a number of specific reasons:

  1. Today art no longer has a mythical-transcendent function.
  2. Their role as a trigger for emotions no longer corresponds to the expectations.
  3. Didactic tasks are now better fulfilled by other media.

These insights have brought positive movement to the art industry. You experiment with new media and methods, you do without the museum and look for a place for art in public life. However: it does not solve the questions that have arisen.

In the group "parallel", the representatives of the most varied of professions with a predominantly creative and creative orientation have found a loose collaboration. Regardless of any differences in individual views, they are of the opinion that aesthetic issues are integrated into every design process - aesthetic in the original sense of the word: based on the perception process. Aesthetic means: optimally clarified, prepared for information, open to access by exploratory behavior. Any aesthetic object that does not serve any other purpose than to stimulate perception and thought processes is to be regarded as a work of art. This does not mean an expansion of consciousness in the superficial sense, but a contribution to the development of the ability to deal with complex environmental structures in a clarifying manner.

If one renounces the wish to ascribe a mystical field of activity to art through some detour, the direction is clear again. It is open to any attempt that breaks the old means of expression, but it also leads back to some conventional forms of representation, which in their simplicity still offer the best prerequisites for perceptual processes - for example for graphics or sculpture. From this area of their work - the free aesthetic design - the members of the group "parallel" present their latest work. « - Herbert W. Franke
