The Cross-Country World Cup 1977/78 was a series of competitions organized by the FIS . The World Cup began on December 15, 1977 in Telemark and ended on March 11, 1978 in Oslo . The World Cup was held on a trial basis and therefore unofficially. The athletes in places 1 to 20 received World Cup points (1st place = 26 points, 2nd place = 22 points, 3rd place = 19 points, 4th to 20th place, descending 17 points to 1 point). For the individual evaluation, the six best placements were evaluated for the overall evaluation; six results were discarded. Sven-Åke Lundbäck won the overall ranking .
