Giulio Capitanio (born March 6, 1952 in Schilpario ) is a former Italian cross-country skier .

Career

Capitanio, who started for the CS Carabinieri, took third place with the relay in Le Brassus in January 1975 . At the 1976 Winter Olympics in Innsbruck he ran in 28th place over 30 km, 21st place over 15 km and seventh place with the relay. In the 1977/78 season he won over 30 km in Castelrotto and came second over 30 km in Ramsau am Dachstein . At the highlight of the season, the Nordic World Ski Championships in Lahti in 1978 , he finished 21st over 50 km, 19th over 15 km and 14th over 30 km. With the season he came 11th there. He finished the season in fifth place in the unofficial overall World Cup.

At the beginning of the 1978/79 season, Capitanio triumphed in Telemark together with Maurilio De Zolt and Roberto Primus in the relay. This was followed by a third place with the relay in Le Brassus , a sixth place in Oslo over 50 km and a victory over 15 km in Zakopane and thus achieved fourth place in the unofficial overall World Cup at the end of the season. At his second Olympic participation in Lake Placid the following year , he came in 39th place over 15 km, 27th place over 30 km and 19th place over 50 km. Together with Maurilio De Zolt, Benedetto Carrara and Giorgio Vanzetta he finished sixth. In February 1982 he won the 24th place over 50 km at the Nordic World Ski Championships in Oslo. At the 1984 Winter Olympics in Sarajevo he ran on 34th place over 50 km, 26th place over 30 km, 24th place over 15 km and together with Maurilio De Zolt, Alfred Runggaldier and Giorgio Vanzetta on seventh Space. He completed his last World Cup race in March 1984 in Lahti , which he finished in 52nd place over 15 km.

At Italian championships Capitanio won four times over 50 km (1976, 1978, 1980, 1983), three times over 15 km (1976, 1979, 1980), once over 30 km (1978) and five times with the relay (1973, 1975, 1977, 1978, 1985).
