František Šimon (born April 28, 1953 in Nové Město ; † July 22, 2016 ) was a Czechoslovak cross-country skier .

Career

Šimon, who started for the Dukla Liberec , made his first international appearance at the 1974 Nordic World Ski Championships in Falun . There he took 19th place over 15 km and fifth place with the relay. In the following year he achieved third place in Ramsau am Dachstein over 30 km and at the Tatra Cup in Štrbské Pleso over 25 km. In the 1975/76 season he was third with the relay in Davos and Ramsau am Dachstein. At the season highlight, the Winter Olympics in Innsbruck in February 1976 , he ran to 44th place over 30 km, 34th place over 15 km and tenth place with the relay. In January 1977 he won the 30 km in Castelrotto . At the Nordic World Ski Championships in Lahti in 1978 , he came in 40th place over 50 km, 28th place over 15 km and 11th place over 30 km. Together with Jiří Švub , Milan Jarý and Jiří Beran , he won seventh place in the season. In March 1978 he took third place with the relay at the Svenska Skidspelen in Falun and in March 1979 at the Tatra Cup in Štrbské Pleso the second place over 30 km and 15 km. At the 1980 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid , he ran on 40th place over 15 km, 36th place over 30 km and 27th place over 50 km. In the season with Miloš Bečvář , Jiří Švub and Jiří Beran, he came in ninth place. His last at world championships he completed at the Nordic World Ski Championships in Oslo in 1982 . There he achieved 43rd place over 15 km, 34th place over 30 km and 23rd place over 50 km.

In Czechoslovak championships, Šimon won four times over 15 km (1975, 1977, 1978, 1980), five times over 30 km (1977, 1978, 1980, 1981, 1982), three times over 50 km (1976, 1978, 1982) and six times with the Season of Dukla Liberec (1973, 1975, 1977, 1978, 1980, 1981). In 1975 he was third and in 1980 and 1983 second over 50 km, 1975 and 1979 second over 30 km, 1981 second over 15 km and 1976 and 1982 second with the relay.
