Jiří Beran (born January 18, 1952 in Náchod ) is a former Czechoslovak cross-country skier .

Career

Beran, who started for the Dukla Liberec , took part in the Nordic World Ski Championships in Falun in February 1974 . There he finished 23rd place over 30 km, 20th place over 50 km and fifth place with the relay. A month earlier he was third over 15 km and second over 30 km in Nové Město . The following year he won second place with the relay at the Czech Marusarzówna Memorial in Zakopane . In the 1975/76 season he was in Ramsau am Dachstein third with the relay and at the Czech Marusarzówna Memorial he won with the relay and took third place over 15 km. At the Olympic Winter Games in Innsbruck in February 1976 , he ran to 45th place over 30 km, 15th place over 50 km and tenth place with the relay. The following year he won third place over 30 km in Castelrotto and first place over 30 km in Nové Město. In the 1977/78 season he won the bronze medal over 15 km at the 1978 Winter Universiade in Špindlerův Mlýn and took third place with the relay at the Svenska Skidspelen in Falun. At the season highlight, the Nordic World Ski Championships in Lahti in 1978 , he came in 30th place over 15 km, 26th place over 30 km and sixth place over 50 km. Together with Jiří Švub , Milan Jarý and František Šimon he achieved seventh place in the season. In March 1979 he triumphed at the Tatrapokal in Štrbské Pleso over 15 km. At the 1980 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid , he ran to 24th place over 15 km, 23rd place over 50 km and 21st place over 30 km. In the season with František Šimon, Miloš Bečvář and Jiří Švub he came in ninth place. In March 1980 he won third place over 30 km at the Tatra Cup in Štrbské Pleso.

In the Czechoslovak Championships Beran won three times over 30 km (1973, 1975, 1979) and 50 km (1979, 1980, 1983), once over 15 km (1979) and eight times with the relay of Dukla Liberec (1973-1980). In addition, he was twice second (1977, 1978) and third (1975, 1976) over 15 km, four times second (1976–1978, 1981) and three times third (1974, 1980, 1982), over 30 km, twice second over 50 km (1976, 1981) and twice runner-up with the season (1981, 1982).
