Martin Stockinger (born February 10, 1984 in Rohrbach in Upper Austria ) is a former Austrian cross-country skier .

Career

Stockinger contested his first international race on January 4, 2002 in Furtwangen as part of the Alpencup (cross-country skiing Continental Cup). In the sprint he came in 25th place. At the Junior World Championship in Schonach in 2002 , he was sixth in the sprint race after he had already finished eighth in the qualification. On December 19, 2002 he started for the first time in the cross-country skiing world cup at the sprint race in Linz . He reached the 50th place. At the Junior World Championships 2003 in Sollefteå he could not achieve any results worth mentioning and in the two competitions he contested only came in 49th place in the sprint and 60th place over 10 kilometers in classic technique. At the Junior World Championships in 2004 in Stryn, however, he was able to attract attention in the sprint qualification with fourth place and was able to win the bronze medal in the actual competition. At his second World Cup start on March 12, 2004 in Pragelato , he was 40 in the sprint. On December 21, 2004, he won the bronze medal in the sprint at the National Championships in Saalfelden . At the World Cup race in Nové Město na Moravě on January 16, 2005, he was able to further increase his World Cup performance and finished the sprint race in 31st place. At the National Championships in Munich in 2005 , he won the gold medal in the first sprint race and came 4th in the second sprint race.

In the sprint race for the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin , he surprisingly finished 20th after he was able to convince with 25th place in the qualification. At the 2007 World Championships in Sapporo , Japan , he was 43 in jumping.

At the Nordic World Ski Championships in Liberec in 2009 , he only reached 75th place in the sprint race.

At the beginning of the 2009/10 season he clearly missed the required standard in Davos with 61st place. It was not until December 2010 that he was back in the squad in Düsseldorf , where he placed 38th. After a subsequent transfer to the Alpine Cup, he made his comeback in the World Cup in January 2011. However, he was again luckless and unsuccessful. At the team sprint in Milan in January 2012 , he surprisingly reached 10th place with the team. At the following Austrian championship in Bad Ischl he reached second place in qualification, but had to be content with seventh place in the race.

Since 2009 he has not won any points in the World Cup. Mostly Stockinger failed in the qualification. He contested his last race on January 18, 2014 in Szklarska Poręba , Poland , when he was 45th in the sprint.
