Liu Yuanyuan ( Chinese  柳 圆圆 , Pinyin Liǔ Yuányuán ; born March 17, 1982 ) is a Chinese biathlete .

Liu ran her first race in the Biathlon World Cup at the beginning of the 1999/2000 season in Hochfilzen . Her first race was an individual in which she was 83rd. The highlight of the first season was the 2000 Junior World Championships in Hochfilzen. Here the Shenyangian won the bronze medal in the relay competition with Cheng Xiaoni and Li Hou. She also finished seventh in the individual and 18th in the persecution. Then it took until 2002 that Liu was used in Ridanna and again in the context of a Junior World Championship. This event also brought very good results for the Chinese with fourth place in the individual and 12th in the pursuit. In Östersund , Liu started the 2002/2003 season in the World Cup for the first time in three years and was 39th in the sprint race. It was to remain her best result in a single race for years. The high point of the season was the 2003 biathlon world championships in Khanty-Mansiysk . Liu was 68th in the individual, 63rd in the sprint and together with Kong Yingchao , Sun Ribo and Liu Xianying ninth in the relay competition. With the relay, the Chinese could even be sixth at the beginning of the following season in Kontiolahti . Since 2004, Liu had to compete more often in the Biathlon European Cup with stronger internal competition in the Chinese national team. She achieved top ten results several times, including a fifth place in the Ridnaun sprint in 2005.

Between 2005 and 2008, the Chinese no longer competed in international biathlon races, but switched to cross-country skiing . Here she contested her first race in Changchun at the end of 2005 as part of the Far East Cup. A little later she joined already at the competitions in Pragelato plan as part of the 2006 Olympic Games of Turin on. There, Liu was 32nd in the pursuit, 45th over 30 kilometers and 16th in the relay. This was followed by her debut in the cross-country skiing world cup in a sprint in Changchun, where she won her first world cup points in 29th place. In February 2007, she also showed her best performance in the same place when she came fourth in the 10-kilometer race. In December 2007 and January 2008 Liu won a 5-kilometer race in Idre and Särna as part of the FIS Cup. Despite several good results, the Chinese could not convince in cross-country skiing, which is why she switched back to biathlon in 2008.

She made her comeback in biathlon at the start of the 2008/09 season in the IBU Cup and finished 19th in the Idre sprint. Shortly afterwards, she ran World Cup races again in Östersund. In the first individual race in 2009, a sprint in Oberhof , Liu finished 12th in the points for the first time.
