Tero Similä (born February 26, 1980 in Ylivieska ) is a Finnish cross-country skier .

Career

Similä, who starts for the Ylivieskan Kuula , appeared internationally for the first time in January 2000 at the Junior World Ski Championships in Štrbské Pleso . There he was ninth over 30 km classic and fifth with the relay. In December 2000 he ran in Orsa for the first time in the Continental Cup and took 38th place in the sprint. He completed his first World Cup race in March 2001 in Falun , which he finished classically in 64th place over 15 km. In February 2004 he got his first world cup points in Umeå with the 29th place over 15 km classic. At the Nordic World Ski Championships in Oberstdorf in 2005 , he achieved 25th place in the mass start race over 50 km classic, 13th place in the skiathlon and 12th place with the relay. In March 2005 he reached eighth place in the skiathlon, his best placement in the World Cup. He repeated this placement in March 2006 in Oslo over 50 km freestyle. At the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin he came in 33rd place in the skiathlon, 32nd place over 15 km classic and 11th place with the relay. In the following year he succeeded at the Nordic World Ski Championships 2007 in Sapporo, the 42nd place over 15 km freestyle, the 28th place in the skiathlon and the 22nd place in the 50 km mass start race. In the 2009/10 season he reached with three results in the top ten, including second place in the 15 km handicap race in Jõulumäe , ninth place in the overall standings of the Scandinavian Cup . At the beginning of the 2010/11 season he finished 57th at the Nordic Opening in Kuusamo . In the further course of the season he won his first victory in the Scandinavian Cup over 15 km freestyle in Madona and thus achieved 13th place in the overall ranking of the Scandinavian Cup. At the season highlight, the Nordic World Ski Championships 2011 in Oslo, he ran to 31st place in the mass start race over 50 km freestyle, 28th place in skiathlon and 16th place over 15 km classic. At the Nordic World Ski Championships in 2013 in Val di Fiemme , he finished 39th in the skiathlon, 37th in the 15 km freestyle and 35th in the 50 km mass start race. After a positive doping test for EPO in March 2014, Similä was banned for two years.
