Kalle Lassila (born January 23, 1985 in Veteli ) is a Finnish cross-country skier . He specializes in sprint competitions.

Career

Lassila, who starts for Vetelin Urheilijat , made his international debut in January 2004 as part of the Cross-Country Continental Cup in Valkeakoski . However, being 105th after 10 km was far from the front of the field. After two FIS races in December 2004, he started on March 5, 2005 for the first time as part of the Cross-Country World Cup . In Lahti he immediately made it into the points as 29th. At the following Junior World Championships in 2005 in Rovaniemi Lassila won the qualification of the sprint competition. In the finals, however, he would have to be content with ninth place.

In the following winter 2005/06 Lassila only started in FIS races and in the Scandinavian Cup , but came back to a World Cup in January in Otepää . However, as 33rd he just missed the World Cup points. At the following Junior World Championships in 2006 in Kranj , he fell short of expectations as 22nd. At his last World Cup of the season in Drammen , he managed to win points for the first and only time in the season as 21st. In the overall World Cup ranking, he reached 137th place.

At the beginning of the 2006/07 season Lassila started with a weak 48th place in Düsseldorf . However, a few weeks later in Kuusamo he managed to run into the points again in the sprint. He was able to surprise at the end of January 2007 in Otepää with an eleventh place after he had even run into fifth place in the qualification. Also at the following Nordic World Ski Championships in 2007 he reached a good eleventh place in the sprint. In Lahti, however, he ran after the competition again in the Sprint World Cup as 55th. Even at the following U23 World Championship in Tarvisio , he was unable to match the result from Sapporo and only came in 15th.

In Kuusamo in November Lassila had his best start of the season to date, finishing sixth. However, he could not keep this performance constant and was already 61st in the following World Cup, far away from the top of the world. The results remained poor until the end of the season. It was only at the beginning of the 2008/09 season that he was able to convince in Kuusamo as fourth in the first sprint of the season and only just missed his first podium. But it was again his best result for many months. At the Nordic World Ski Championships 2009 in Liberec , he achieved a mixed performance with rank 18 in the sprint. At the end of the season in Trondheim , Lassila was able to surprise with a good sixth place in the sprint.

In the 2009/10 season Lassila started for the first time in the team sprint in Düsseldorf . He reached eighth place. He had to break off the Tour de Ski 2009/10 , which took place at the turn of the year, just before the stage in Toblach . Almost two weeks later, however, he was back on a good 12th place in Otepää. At the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver , he finished tenth in the sprint after finishing 19th in qualification. He finished the season a little later in 57th place in the overall ranking and 20th in the Sprint World Cup ranking.

In the 2010/11 season Lassila remained completely without a World Cup point and started again increasingly in the lower series, such as the Scandinavian Cup. For the Nordic World Ski Championships 2011 in Oslo he was not given a starting place in the Finnish squad. In the 2011/12 season he also started in the Alpine Cup. It was only in Otepää in January that he returned to the World Cup and achieved a good result in tenth place. However, it remained the only top result this winter. Lassila then continued to compete in FIS races and only rarely as part of the senior national team. At the Nordic World Ski Championships 2013 in Val di Fiemme , he finished 28th in the sprint race.

For the 2013/14 season , he again missed the leap into the senior national team. He remained without a World Cup start the entire season and also remained unsuccessful at the start of FIS races and the Scandinavian Cup. As a result, Lassila no longer competed at the Finnish Championships in 2014.
